Who for?

Our Learn to Ride course is designed specifically for children aged 4-10 years old who would like to learn how to ride a bike with pedals independently.

It is recommended that 4 year olds attend our Balance Bike course prior to attending this course.

Course description

The course (4 x 1 hour sessions) will give children the skills and confidence required to ride a bike with pedals independently.

The course will teaches children how to:

  • Fit a helmet
  • Mount & dismount the bike
  • Balance
  • Steer
  • Brake
  • Pedal

We do this be lowering the seats and removing the pedals from the children’s bikes for the first three sessions. This enables children to learn the skills with the reassurance of being able to put their feet on the ground if they lose their balance. This helps them to feel safe which builds their confidence. For the fourth session we put the pedals back on and teach them how to perform the skills whilst also pedalling.

All sessions are held outdoors in a traffic free area. Instructors encourage parents to observe all sessions so they can understand the skills being taught and help their child practice outside of the sessions.

Equipment

It is best if a child learns to ride on their own bike so they can practice in between sessions and so they become familiar on the bike that they are going to ride once the course has ended. Please see our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section at the bottom of the page for further information about what types of bikes are suitable.

We ask that children wear a cycle helmet at all times during our courses/sessions. If you dont have your own bikes or helmet then dont panic as we can lend you both. Please indicate when booking if you need to borrow any equipment.

Cost

£50 per child (plus a small booking fee).
